It is unfortunate that some people await a new year to start setting “resolutions” as their motivation to change.
Personally, I believe, every day is a new day to begin anything and at anytime. Every day is a gift to change what you are unhappy about or simply tackling what you can improve. There is always room for self-improvement. And it all starts within.
And as for motivation, it should stem from within you. Like a passion to live and love, a burning desire to become a better you and achieve your full-potential in all fields of your life.
But since it is a new year after all, let us begin by keeping our promises to ourselves. See when you love yourself, you keep your promises and fulfill your needs, wants, and happiness without procrastination, delays, justifications, or excuses. You make things happen instead of passively hoping for them to change or waiting helplessly. You take charge of yourself and so your life.
You also see a never-ending journey to growth. There is no perfection to be attained, but surely always room for improvement.
This is why the one resolution at the top of all your lists should be: “to work on and improve your relationship with YOURSELF.”
If you already have a partner/spouse, I can assure you that if you are not caring for your own well-being you cannot fully cater your partner’s/spouse’s either. And surely, you relationship cannot be a healthy and/or happy one if you are not a priority in your own life.
You also cannot commit to another and make him/her happy, when you are not committed to yourself and aren’t happy with yourself within.
This brings me to another vital point: become the chief boss of your life. Just like Henry Ford once said, “I am the captain of my fate, I am the master of my destiny”. This starts with becoming the master of your mind, thoughts, and so emotions and behavior. Lead yourself to where you have always wanted to be, lead yourself to what you thought was impossible to reach.
Believe in yourself.
Only choose to believe in the best and that you are destined for the best.
It is time you breath life back into your dreams, your needs, your desires, your ambitions, your goals, and your relationships.
Accept your truth. Accept who you are within and out.
Accept who you are not.
Take care of your health.
Eat whole foods for nutrition most of the time. And treat yourselves with the tasteful goodies on occasions and in moderation.
Train your body to strength. Muscle is your best friend to a lean healthy body!
And do cardio for your heart, for it is a muscle you must strengthen.
Appreciate yourself and others, for who they are and not who you wish they were. If you cannot appreciate yourself easily, you can always change. But when it comes to others, it is not your task. Change begins within.
Open your mind before your mouth. Let go of your need to be right and be kind for a change!
Speak kindly and consciously to others.
Above all, remember, when anger takes over.. choose silence.
Notice the beauty in every thing in life, no matter how small.
Appreciate the small moments.
Appreciate the little gestures of smiles and love.
Stop trying to understand everything. Accept that somethings go beyond our comprehension. Sometimes you need to take for fact that the only reason behind a circumstance is to accept it. Nothing further to figure out.
And remember, what you resist, persists. Let go of your need to control all situations and outcomes.
Detach yourselves from others, relationships, and material things.
Freedom lies in letting go.
Choose to grow from your struggles and challenges. Do not let yourself be reduced by them!
Realize and believe in all that you are worth.
You are a child of God.
You were made to shine.
You deserve true love, respect, faithfulness, and happiness.
Realize that unless you let go of what and whom limit you, you cannot grow.
You must let go of what you’re settling for to make room for what you deserve.
Put your needs, desires, dreams, and happiness first.
If you have the right people in your life, they will support you and not diminish you or cause you to self-compromise.
Let go of what and whom make you unhappy and/or cause you drama.
Simplify your life.
Remove yourself from all negativity and toxic relationships.
Follow your heart but let your mind guide you as well.
And dance more.
Even if this life will be a struggle, why not take the decision to enjoy it regardless?
Life will hand you many people that bring you down and belittle you and your dreams anyways.
Be your best companion. Your own best friend. Your greatest supporter.
Be your own savior.
Do not let yourself become your own worst enemy through self-doubt and fear.
You conquer them or they conquer you.
Stop over-thinking and just DO.
Stop worrying, it only steals your courage of today away. Just go at it. Attack your fears.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
It’s about being better than who you were yesterday.
You are your only competitor.
Yesterday you said tomorrow. Well now you know, the tomorrow’s fly by. Your yesterday is a year ago. The only day that matters is TODAY. So put it to use.
I leave you with The Optimist Creed authored in 1912 by Chistian D. Larson:
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.
To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”
